6 A stark white garden seems less barren when you add a surprising flash of color. Garden designer
Jon Carloftis spiced up this snowy Maine garden using inexpensive nature-inspired accents. “ Put your effort into the things you see
out the windows, such as a bird bath, an arbor, or a fence,” Carloftis says. A pyramid of oranges stacked in an urn,
opposite,
inspired
the color theme for this landscape. Fluttering orange ribbons add eye-catching movement to the birdhouse, the natural centerpiece
of the garden. Orange picks up the warm colors of branches and grasses but contrasts nicely with the green pine boughs and globes
throughout the garden.
